Rob is Guernsey born and joined Placing People 1st after working in both Guernsey’s finance industry and public sector. He is familiar with the island’s recruitment industry after being placed in temporary positions independently, and through local agencies. ‘You could say I began to get understanding of how local recruitment firms work, as I was always in their offices!’

Rob has worked in a number of temporary roles since leaving school and enjoyed the flexibility that temporary work allowed him. ‘I wanted to try different roles and not be tied down to one particular area. Temping has enabled me to gain exposure to different areas of finance and work in both the public and private sector’. Rob has experience within the local funds industry and has a broad knowledge of investments and local firms from his time working with the States of Guernsey Treasury. This experience has put him in good stead for understanding our clients’ needs across a range of roles.

Rob joined Placing People 1st in 2010 after returning from travelling around South East Asia, Australia and South Africa. ‘I was familiar with Placing People 1st as I had registered with the Agency before departing on my travels. Placing People 1st are the only Agency locally that has an office in Australia, and naturally I was curious what they could do to help. I found the team here very helpful and subsequently I enquired about roles on my return to Guernsey, but I never expected that I would be offered a role within the company’.

Rob is passionate about sports and recently competed in his second marathon. An avid football and cricket fan he was unable to curb his excitement when he found out that Australian cricketing legend Michael Bevan was part of the 1st Recruitment team in Sydney. ‘That was the dealmaker for me! It was good to know I was joining a team where I wasn’t the only decent cricketer!’ Rob is also a keen amateur writer and cook.
