The do's and don't at the work Christmas party
The annual work Christmas do can be a great time to really get to know your colleagues in a more relaxed environment. But it is important to remember it is still a work event so to keep it professional, appropriate and avoid anything which could potentially damage your reputation at work. Here are our do’s and don'ts for your work office party…
Do attend
The office party is a great opportunity to let your hair down and get to know your colleagues in a more casual setting so don’t snob the invitation, it might even improve your working relationship with your colleagues.
Do dress appropriately
You still need an air of professionalism so don’t dress provocatively. But this doesn't mean you shouldn't have fun with your outfit - glam up, especially if you don’t usually get to show off your style much at work.
Do mingle with colleagues you don’t usually talk to
Especially if you work in a larger office environment which doesn’t allow you to integrate often with other teams or departments. You never know who might become your new office bestie!
Don’t make excuses to leave early
Trying to find a ‘way out’ of the evening could come across as rude, especially if your work is paying for the event so embrace the Christmas spirit and make the effort.
Don’t get too drunk too early
This one should go without saying! Most office parties tend to stretch over quite a few hours so make sure you’re there for the full duration in a sober enough state to enjoy it.
Don’t go kissing your colleagues under the mistletoe
As much as it seems a good idea at the time, there’s every reality that it will just lead to a very awkward next encounter in your place of work and nobody wants to be the topic of office gossip.
