4 things you should ALWAYS do at the end of a job interview

26 Nov 2018

Interviews are nerve wracking. You can never be certain exactly what questions an interviewer will ask, but there are a few things you can do and say towards the end of the interview to make sure you leave a good lasting impression in the employers mind. Here are our top tips…

Do you have any questions?

Make sure you do! Research the company and their clients to bring some constructive questions to the table that show your interest. Don’t be afraid to get personal and ask the interviewer what they enjoy about working for that company. This is your opportunity to interview the employer and find out if it is indeed a place you’d like to work for and shows you’re serious about the position.

Remind them you’re the perfect candidate:

Summarise your skills and how these fit the role, as well as how you are suited to the culture of the company. You want to leave the interviewer with no doubt that you are the right fit so restate to them your value. If there are any assets or skills you haven’t yet had the chance to highlight through the questions you’ve been asked, now is your chance.

What happens next?

It is important you are aware of the process from the minute you walk out of the door. Ask the interviewer for a timeline of how much longer they will be interviewing other candidates and when you can expect to hear whether you have been successful. Some employers will require you to attend a second more in-depth interview so find out what would be involved if this is the case.

After the interview:

Once you have left the interview don’t sit and wait to hear a decision from the employer. Within a few hours of the interview ending, send a follow up email and thank the interviewers for their time and reiterate your interest in the role. You can really show them how engaged you were during the interview by referring to specific points that were discussed.
