How to get a job by the time you graduate

When graduation is looming, you will want to spend time with friends and making the most of your final days at university. Therefore, it is important the hunt for your graduate job is well and truly underway by this time.

• October to November - The job research stage: At this point, you should have identified what area of work you intend to go in to. You may need to adopt some skills before crucial for the role, identify these and how you intend to gain them. If you have a specific company you want to work in, identify this now, and work out how you aim to target them. 

• December to January - Networking stage: Identify any potential connections or referees you have. If you know someone in this industry, they may be able to be your recommendation, or help you find a job in their area. Do some research into this career path, and try to complete further work experience if possible.

• February to March - Preparation: Use this time to alter your CV and cover letter to your chosen career focus. Get interview ready. Practice interview questions with a friend or family member, and go over things you may be asked and how you plan to answer them. 

• April to May - Application: This is the time you will most likely be applying to the job. Most applications are online, making them easily accessible. The interview will be coming soon, so make sure you are fully prepared.

• June to July - Time to celebrate: Hand in your offer letter and celebrate graduating with a degree, and having a job.
